Activities in Provo

BYU Campus

  • Museum of Paleontology: Free

  • Monte L. Bean Science Museum: Free

  • Varsity Theater (Wilkinson Center): $2 movie tickets for several movies each semester

  • Smith Fieldhouse indoor track and gyms (for the gyms, first get a spouse ID card at the Wilkinson Center)

  • Pools: lap pools, dive tank, and recreational pool for students and their families ages 5+

  • Aerobics Classes: Cost is $48/semester for as many classes as you can handle!

  • BYU Sports: The ROC passes are great!

  • Game Center (Wilkinson Center): bowling (each student gets one free game per year!), ping pong, pool, video games

  • BYU Arts: dance, music, concerts, and plays

  • Planetarium: Friday Night shows for the public $2/person, or if you get a group of 20 or more together they also do showings during the week

Provo Library

Storytime for toddlers, preschoolers, junior kids (ages 5-8), and senior kids (8-12) are offered multiple times throughout the week. The storytimes are excellent and include songs, a puppet show, a coloring page, and a story. Check out www.provolibrary.com for days and times. Other library events include: Monday night at the library, Fairy Tea Party, Valentines Ball, Mother/Child Book Club, and Big Guy Little Guy: Boys and Their Dads. The Provo Library is a great resource with so much to offer during long cold winters, and most of it is free! If you are a Provo resident you can also get an Orem Library card.

Local Activities

  • Provo Rec Center: Free indoor playground and outdoor skate park. They also have an amazing pool and other amenities that you have to either have a membership or pay per visit to use.

  • Home Depot in Provo: Free kids workshops, 1st Saturday of each month

  • Lowe’s in Orem: Free kids workshops, sign up required, Saturdays at 10am

  • Scera Center for the Arts in Orem: Theatre for young audiences, youth theatre, children’s choir

  • Peaks Ice Arena in Provo: Public ice skating

  • Classic Fun Center in Orem: Skating, inflatables, arcade, jungle gym (great discounts during the day on weekdays)

  • Lowe’s Extreme Air Sports in Provo: Trampolines, climbing wall, foam pits, trapeze

  • The Quarry in Provo: Rock climbing

  • Hang Time in Orem: Trampoline park

  • Nickel City in Orem: Nickel arcade

  • Pass of all Passes, various locations: The Pass of All Passes costs about $30-50 per year. It lets you into many different venues like Seven Peaks Water Parks, Trafalga Fun Centers (mini-golf, go-karts, kids rides and more), select pro and semi-pro sports games and more. Watch for these at a discount.

  • Free rooftop Concerts: 1st Friday of the month May-October

  • Creative Collaborative: 2nd Tuesday of the month- free (collaborativecreative.com)

Explore Outdoors

Provo Canyon, Sundance, the “Y” hike, the Provo River Trail, Aspen Grove are all great outdoor locations to explore. There are so many places close by to hike, have bonfires, and play! Bridal Veil Falls is a great small walk where kids can run or bike on the paved path and feed the fish in the pond. You can float down the Provo River in tubes or rafts, kayak or paddle board on the Utah Lake or Provo River, hike Mt. Timpanogos or drive the Alpine Loop.

Swimming  

  • Provo Recreation Center (indoor and outdoor pool, lazy river, slides, rock wall, jumps, and more; swimming lessons offered year round)

  • Seven Peaks Water Park in Provo

  • Provo Veteran’s Memorial Pool and Waterslide Park

  • Scera Park Pool in Orem

  • Utah Lake State Park in Provo

  • Splash pads at Riverwoods Mall in Provo, Springville, and Pioneer Park on Center Street

Provo Parks and Recreation

Provo City offers a variety of classes and sports for kids.  Prices range from $30-$50. If you show proof that you qualify for WIC, Medicaid, free or reduced lunch, or other government programs, you can get a reduced rate on the classes.  Go to www.provo.org for more information.

Discounts available to students

  • UTA Transit pass: BYU students, faculty, staff and their spouses and dependents can ride UTA buses, TRAX, FrontRunner and the new Utah Valley Express (UVX) for free. You can get your new card at the BYU ID Center, located at 1057 WSC (Wilkinson Student Center.)

  • Jiffy Lube

  • Sprouts Farmer’s Market 10% off total bill on Thursdays

  • Little Caesars

  • California Pizza Kitchen

  • Brick Oven 50% off pizza weekly

  • BYU Bowling: BYU students get one free game of bowling and one shoe rental each year if they show their ID card at the Game Center. Plus they offer discounts on different days of the week.
