This past weekend was the MBASA Halloween Party and it was COCO themed! The movie is a favorite of kids this year and we were excited to mix our Halloween party with a little bit of Mexican culture and a side of Disney flair.
Our wonderful MBASA Holiday committee worked hard to get together some colorful and bold decorations. We hung calaveras (decorated sugar skulls) on the walls along with some giant tissue paper flowers and then strung four strands of papel picados (traditional tissue paper banner—but in this case, MBASA style. i.e. much simpler than the traditional banners) across the entire gym! We actually couldn't find a ladder tall enough, so we improvised with a ladder on top of a table to reach the hooks to hang. We are very, very committed to our vision. ;)
After enjoying a delicious, but albeit, messy, taco bar, there was a surprise COCO performance from some of our committee members and MBASA kids. It was the hit of the evening! The dance was followed by a kids costume parade:
But of course, we had whole families in on the costume thing.
We also had a kids "Pin the Spider on the Web" activity, DumDum ghost craft, and last but not least - the trunk or treat!
